The world is a little colder with the departure of Yuki, the Ice Queen of our home. Adopted from a foster home as a kitten, Yuki was the planned half of a spur of the moment, two-for-one deal with her brother, Taiyou. She was a feisty and often contentious addition to our family. After experiencing trauma in her youth from an aggressive intruder cat, she became withdrawn and often lashed out violently. The family figured she was happier alone and decided to give her space, dubbing her the Ice Queen.
It was only later that our family came to realize she was hurting, scared, and needed to be loved on her terms. With baby steps, she opened up and became an affectionate kitten once again. Her favorite thing in the world was the bathroom counter, where the door could be closed and she could feel safe receiving all the coddling and brushes she wanted. When her daddy would open a door or come up the stairs, regardless of what he was actually planning, she would race him to the door hoping that it meant one-on-one time with him. Despite everything, Yuki had always been a one-person cat and she adored her daddy with every ounce of her nine pounds.
We are sorry Yuki, if we understood you sooner, you could have had many more snuggles and pets.
Yuki is dearly missed by her daddy, Michael, her littermate, Taiyou, and her reluctant roommate, Choko, as well as the house’s other two humans, Ali and Johnny.
