Peanut Butter

Resting in her favorite hidey, during the early morning of Friday, April 10th, our sweet Peanut Butter scampered across the rainbow bridge, happily greeted by her sister, Oreo. She would have turned seven years old on June 6th.

When Oreo passed last Fall we were concerned about Pean’s well being (especially having cancer herself), but she adjusted to life in a new room and environment seamlessly, with much love and attention bestowed upon her. We bought her loveys she’d snuggle for comfort, and she became fond of watching the tv that sat nearby her cage. A huge Harry Potter fan, Pean spent hours watching the gang at Hogwarts. She’d jump into her bed and watch intently, something she didn’t do when other programs were on. We joked that maybe it was the British accents!

As a young pup, Peanut Butter was convinced that she was the one in charge, both over her sister AND her humans! While she’d occasionally try to bully her sister into giving up a toy or treat, she showed the true depth of their love and bond during Oreo’s last weeks, when she would lick and help groom her.

While we are happy our Guinea girls are united, our hearts are heavy. We will miss Pean biting on her cage bars in the morning for her digestive biscuits, seeing her excitement over a new toy (especially straw ones), laughing at her tricks of “circle”, “give me five”, ringing a bell for a carrot treat, and the squinty eyes she’d give us when she was annoyed. Most of all we’ll miss her companionship.

We’d like to thank Dr. Gloria Goodman and her staff at Avian and Exotic Animal Medical Center for the years of compassion and care for Oreo and Peanut Butter. Dr. Goodman always treated them like they were her own, and words cannot express our gratitude enough.
