CWD CEZAR VALENTI

Aug 4, 2017 — Oct 10, 2025

CWD Cezar lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and selflessness from the moment he could walk until his sudden passing.

Cezar served as a Contract Working Dog for the Department of Defense as a Single-Purpose Explosives Detection K9. During his distinguished career, he completed two deployments—one in Germany and one in Kabul, Afghanistan—where he helped protect the United States Embassy and the personnel stationed there.

After retiring from active duty in 2023, Cezar was placed at K-9 Hero Haven in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. In 2024, he was among 24 retired working dogs rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA after the facility's owner was charged with animal neglect and cruelty.

Following his rescue, Cezar was reunited with the handler who would give him the loving retirement he deserved: Army Military Police Officer Julia Valenti. Though officially retired, Cezar continued to serve in a different capacity. Together, he and Julia visited schools, community events, and educational programs, helping children and adults understand the vital role working dogs play in protecting our country.

Cezar enjoyed a wonderful retirement in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where he was showered with love, surrounded by toys, and given every comfort he had earned through years of faithful service. He was welcomed into the family by Julia's working dogs, K9 Gator and K9 Ara, and treasured his nightly walks while proudly carrying his favorite yellow ball, affectionately known as "Squishy."

In his final moments, Cezar rested in the arms of his handler, Julia, surrounded by the love he had spent a lifetime giving to others. He was remembered by the Department of Defense for his dedicated service overseas and for the sacrifices he made in support of his country.

CWD Cezar proved that not all heroes wear capes—some have four paws. Although their time together was short, CPT Julia formed a strong bond with her K9 Partner. She will be presenting CEZAR'S LAW to the Pennsylvania House, a law which will protect Working Dogs in the State of Pennsylvania once they retire, and will assist in medical aid.

Rest easy, CWD Cezar. Your watch is over.
